Research Interests

I am interested in dissecting the genetic basis and the pathological changes in neurological diseases. I am part of the Model Organism Screening Center (MOSC) of the Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN). Using humanized fly models, I test the causative gene variants in patients, which provides support to the molecular diagnosis, and explore disease-causing mechanisms and potential therapeutic strategies. I am also studying the dysregulation of sphingolipid metabolism in the progression of neurodegenerative diseases including rare Mendelian diseases as well as Parkinson's Disease. Finally, I seek to identify novel inhibitors of sphingolipid biosynthetic enzyme, which could be developed into therapeutic reagents for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
